The Upper Castle of Rattay was one of the two castles in the town of Rattay, along with Pirkstein, the lower castle.
History []
In 1403 Pirkstein was temporarily given to Sir Radzig by Sir Hans Capon (or rather, by his guardian, Sir Hanush). Sir Hanush remained at the Upper Castle, and it was used for meetings amongst the Lords.
Codex entry[]
The upper castle was built at the same time as the lower castle in the mid-14th century. It also burned in the same year as Pirkstein (1447). In the 16th century it was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau and in 1672 renovated in the Baroque style. Today it houses the local Town Hall.
