- 25 September: The Battle of Nicopolis takes place, in which Istvan Toth, Konrad Kyeser, and Peychar, among others, take part. An army composed of Hungarian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Wallachian, French, English, Russian, Burgundian, and German knights and mercenaries (among others) led by Sigismund of Luxembourg is dealt a humiliating defeat by the Ottomans.

- 20 August: The prince-electors of the Holy Roman Empire depose Wenceslas IV of Bohemia of his Roman throne and Rupert III of the Palatinate is elected in his place the next day.

- Wenceslas IV of Bohemia is taken captive for the second time. Engineered again by the opposing nobility in Bohemia, called the League of the Lords, with the support of his half-brother Sigismund of Luxembourg.

- Henry III of Pirkstein (Hans Capon's father) dies while in retirement in Moravia.
