- Sir Kuno |
The Stone is a supporting character in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance DLC, Band of Bastards.
Biography[]
The Stone hasn't much to say since the day he lost his tongue to the executioner. A stoic of sober temperament, he eschews drink, dice & the other vulgar pursuits of his mates, preferring his own sad company.
The Stone's comrades know nothing about him, not even his true name, and took to calling him The Stone due to his tendency to simply stand still and gaze silently at the world. The Stone joined Kuno's band without invitation when he simply began following them around one day, unable to explain to them his reasoning because of his inability to speak.
When Kuno and his men were planning to take on a job in Borzdorf, they attempted to send The Stone on his way. Stephan failed when asking nicely, getting The Stone's usual, sone-like stare. Which is when he was dubbed The Stone. When the Bearman Brothers tried to run him off, he kicked Jan Bearman in the face, knocking him unconscious, and jumped down off his horse only to knock down Petr Bearman in a single punch. To Kuno, this was someone he should keep around, rather than chase off.
It is revealed during the Lost Trinket route of the quest The Ring of Bacchus that The Stone is able to read and write and has a passion for poetry, but is still ultimately unable to communicate with his comrades because they are unable to read. This is overheard by Henry as Jan Bearman comments to Stone how Stone is the only one who can read or write.
He also possessed a copy of Silence is Golden and Other Myths IV before awarding it to Henry in the first part of The Ring of Bacchus, which is another implication that he is capable of reading. It is also ironic that someone who is mute possesses a high level book on speechcraft. This opens a door for a theory; The Stone choosing to learn how to read could have been a means to research a method that would allow him to speak. This is however never confirmed.
