The Madonna of Sasau[]

After hearing Theresa's story I saw A Woman's Lot quest sign at the Sasau Monastery, and it seems I'm gonna have to help Johanka with some things...

Chapter 1: Infernal Dream[]

Warning: There's an Infernal justice achievement in this quest. Check the description before fighting the Skalitz Soldier.

Speaking with Johanka, the Sasau Monastery nurse and Theresa 's friend, you learn she has been having the same dream every night.

Johanka says: Every night it's the same dream... I was standing a top a hill, behind the Skalitz Castle, at a time before... before everything... I saw the Vigin Mary... She looked just like the murals in the church... She took me to a cave near Skalitz... I went inside this huge cave but she did not follow... I went deeper and deeper inside the cave until I saw the devil himself and the cave was covered in hellfire! I ran as fast as I could but the flames keep getting closer and closer. I ran till I couldn't run anymore... When the flames finally reached me, I was in golfed and died...

Madonna Of Sasau Cave

Location of the Cave

After hearing her story, you head to Skalitz to help Johanka with her nightmare. In a cave you will find a different corpses: someone had dumped the bodies including a Cuman, a merchant, and one of Sir Radzig's men into the cave. Go up the hill and you will find a lone hut with a soldier who may be sitting on a nearby campfire outside. If you talk to him, the soldier will try to pass himself off as a Skalitz guard, but his deception will quickly be revealed. Whatever you choose in the dialogue- will be followed by a fight. Otherwise, you can check the miners' hut first (Step 7), where this disguised soldier hide his spoils, and realized that he is a murder.

After killing him in a frontal duel or knocked him out in stealth, you can throw his body into the mineshaft he used to dispose of the corpses to get the Infernal justice achievement. If you're doing Merciful run, throwing the unconscious body of the soldier into the mineshaft will not have a kill count, or in combat you can lure him near the shaft and position him in such a way that he drops down on his own when dodging. After that, you can return to Johanka and report on the work done. You can also tell Sir Radzig that you've dealt with the murderer, who thanks Henry and reveals that he previously sent a patrol there some time ago and they never returned.

  1. Head to Skalitz.
  2. Go to the cave that's close to the village.
  3. Head inside until you reach the end.
  4. Leave the cave and go up the hill behind it, inspect the shaft.
  5. Examine the blood and follow it.
  6. Stealthfully or fight and kill the Skalitz Soldier and take the key.
  7. Enter his hut and open the trunk (take anything from the hut or the soldier).
  8. Return to Johanka for another mission.

Chapter 2: Casting Lots[]

Warning: There's a You had one job! achievement in this quest. Check the description before talking to Ambrose.

After you return from Skalitz, Johanka had another dream, this time it was a message from the Virgin Mary. Johanka wants to head to the Sasau market to deliver the message. The next day you and Johanka head to the destination and she gives her speech about sin and virtue.

As soon as she's done, Guta, the tailor's wife, asks for her help with her husband. Apparently the Sasau tailor, Ambrose, is addicted to the game dice and needs to stop or else something bad will happen.

  1. Talk to Johanka.
  2. Talk to Guta.
  3. Talk to Ambrose twice (the game will auto save) and get him drunk.
  4. Play a mini drinking game ether get him drunk that he'll play you in dice or get yourself drunk.
  5. Win at dice or pickpocket it and wait until 8 A.M.
    1. To win at dice you must hustle him - if you win too much, he'll get upset and stop playing. Instead pick moderate values for the first two games and lose both, then bet for everything in the third game and win.
    2. To pickpocket it, just select every option with the most number of drinks next to it. When the option comes up to talk about "the meaning of life" do so. This requires a significant Drinking skill to pull off however in order to make him pass out before you do.
  6. Talk to Ambrose once more and tell him about the lesson. You can now choose to keep the money, the dice, both, or nothing:
    • (Optional) Agree to return him 600 Prague Groschen (as you probably promised to his wife).
    • (Optional) Persuade him to give away his dice.
  7. (Optional) Throw Ambrose’s dice into the well. (Doesnt affects ending, so you can keep them)
  8. (Optional) Report to Guta.

Chapter 3: Go and Sin No More[]

Warning: There's a Voyeur achievement in this quest. Check the description before entering baths in Ledetchko.

Johanka's next task for me is to convince the Bathmaid, Adela, in Ledetchko to help with the sick. (This is a tough mission so try to follow along.)

  1. Talk to Johanka and be sure to get as much info as possible and have the First Aid II skill before heading to Ledetchko (It'll help in your quest.).
  2. Go to the Ledetchko baths, here you have few options:
    • wait till tomorrow and talk to Adela;
    • if you have high Charisma, convince (or pay) the Madam to let you in;
    • just ignore the Madam and go inside, lockpicking the door.
  3. Scare off or convince Henslin beating Adela to leave and talk with her (here comes the tricky part so save before you start talking).
  4. Convince Adela to leave without offending her. First tell her about Johanka and what she did with the info you got from her. Then simply choose the top section and pick the medical option. Then pick the one about "changing jobs" and pick the one that says Help heal the sick. Do all this and she'll go with you.
  5. Go immediately and you'll fast travel to the Monastery and Johanka. If you choose to stop Henslin from before you'll stop shortly after leaving Ledetchko and have to fight 3 heavily armed men: Henslin and two of his guards. (Hope your fighting skills are good...). Easiest way is to simply run away. They will lose you incredibly easily and none of them will be able to catch up to you. Henslin and his guards are not counted as enemy/bandit, if you run and surrender to nearby town guards, they will also end hostility and leave. If you'd like to take the less cowardly route (and is not doing Merciful run), start fighting shieldless guard first, and if Henslin somehow turns sideways, immediately start pummeling him as he is truly one hard bastard to kill. Finish off the guard with shield, then talk to Adela and you will end up in the Monastery.
  6. After arriving to Monastery, Adela will offer you to pay with her body to which you can accept or refuse, but accepting the offer will affect ending negatively.
  7. (Optional) Easily Kill Henslin and His Men: Before going to the baths, go to a small camp located Northeast of Ledetchko where the road crosses a small stream. You will find Henslin's two lackeys sitting by a fire. Stealth kill one and then battle the other. Loot them both and then go to the baths. Scare Hanslin off but don't talk to Adela yet. Get on your horse and beat Henslin to where you killed his lackeys. He will be unarmored and alone outside of town. Cut him down and then talk to Adela. Now when you fast travel with Adela, no one will stop you.

Chapter 4: Troublemakers[]

After returning to Johanka, she says she's been visited by a bunch of troublemakers.

  1. Talk to Johanka.
  2. (Optional) Talk to Sebastian vom Berg and let him deal with the troublemakers.
  3. Talk to troublemakers lead, the Loudmouth: (They will appear at around 8-9am)
    • (Optional) Pay 100 coins (haggle) for information on who sent them;
    • Tell them to leave and threaten with the Stocks or fight them.
  4. Tell Johanka that the troublemakers are gone.

Chapter 5: Bonum Commune[]

Warning: There's a Like a ghost achievement in this quest. Check the description before going to woods.

I traveled with Johanka to the Wagoner's Tavern to talk with a man named Pavel of Kolin a former goods merchant who had a bad reputation with two others turned Councilman who wants to repent for his sins.

  1. Go to the marker on map (west of Sasau) to the ruin location, following the trails as guided by Pavel.
Madonna Of Sasau KCD Bonum Commune

Location of the ruin

  1. You will find a camp with 3 Cumans in the ruins.
  2. (Optional) Check the corpses along the road leading to camp, on one of them you'll find Custodian's orders.
  3. Either stealth through them or kill them to get to a collapsed house (the one further northwest to the Cuman camp, near a fallen white tree) in the ruins.
  4. Loot the chest in the fireplace of the collapsed house to get the quest dagger of Pavel and his hidden money (1800 Prague Groschen).
  5. Return to talk to Pavel at the inn. Tell him you found the treasure and give him the dagger. You can lie that you failed to find the money but it will negatively affect the ending of the main quest.
  6. He will let you decide where to donate the money to the Bailiff or the Church. If you have high Speech, you can convince him to accept to donate to the Monastery, but note that if you fail or you do not convince him and donate to the Monastery, he will be angry and it will negatively affect the ending of the main quest.
  7. Go to the Bailiff of Sasau, Overseer or Father Fabian to donate the money (only once) in the name of Pavel as it will not affect the ending. The questline isn't affected by which project you want to donate to, but you might lose a small amount of reputation from those you do not donate to. Note: If you donate in your own name, Pavel will be angry and it will negatively affect the ending of the main quest.
  8. Report to Pavel.
  9. (Optional) Talk to Custodian, give him the document you found and report (or lie) about killing cumans - he will reward you with 325 Prague Groschen.

Warning: There's a Cleric's Pet achievement later, but it is advisable to check the description before starting Chapter 6.

Chapter 6: The Wicket Gate[]

Warning: If you want the Full House Sinner achievement, make sure that the conditions are met before talking with Johanka at step 2.

After returning to Johanka, she says she had another message from the Virgin Mary and decided to go and preach again. But this time not on the square, but in a meadow outside of town. You accompany (or meet) her to the place and listen to sermon. Before she finishes, some fellows come along to break the congregation, and the men in congregation had to defend themselves.

  1. Fight attackers until they run away. Make sure participated in combat and end the status before going to Johanka.
  2. Talk to Johanka. She will tell you that you helped her but one more sinner left - it is you. There is no point in trying to deny anything, Johanka will still consider Henry as a sinner even if you play totally honest and justice but still killed Runt as story required. Attempts to deny or lie lead to losing reputation (except the murdering and bath wenching) with her; confessing deep guilt and regret leads to getting reputation. She will give you a Penitent's robe and tell to go on the pilgrimage by foot. There's actually no need to put on that robe - it plays no role.
  3. Visit all marked shrines and pray on each of them. You can use horse to move between the shrines - no need to go by foot.
  4. Pray inside Church of Uzhitz against the image of the Virgin Mary (on the left wall, left from the window).
  5. Talk to Father Godwin, make a donation to the church (300-1200 Prague Groschen, based on how many sins Johanka questioned) and tell him the story about Johanka.
  6. Travel back to Uzhitz and go to Father Godwin's house. Get the Matthew of Janow Manuscript on the left room (not a quest item, don't lose it; you can return it to Father after the trial).

The Trial[]

Warning: There's an Angel of Mercy achievement in this quest. Check the description before starting the trial.

After doing pilgrimage and cleansing your soul of all sins, you return to the Monastery for another quest, only to see some strange guard with white brigandine, and Johanka is nowhere to be found - what is going on here?

Note: During preparation for the trial, it's important to do all of the optional objectives for the best outcome.

  1. Return to Sasau Monastery and talk to Guard in white brigandine, next to Johanka's home.
  2. (Optional) Talk to Brother Nicodemus.
  3. Talk to Inquisitor Jaroslav on the second floor of the building, above Johanka's room.
  4. Prepare for the trial:
    1. (Optional) Talk to Brother Nicodemus, he'll ask you to find a way to persuade Johanka to speak softly on the trial.
    2. (Optional) Talk to Brother Nicodemus again and ask for his testimony.
    3. (Optional) Tell Inquisitor Jaroslav about the strange activities in here. (Telling about Devil's skull and Waldensians should be enough, though its best to be safe than sorry.) Reporting to him about everything that happened in the province will unlock the Cleric's Pet achievement.
    4. (Optional) Talk to ex-bathmaid Adela (if you managed to move her to Monastery during Chapter 3) ask for her testimony.
    5. (Optional) Talk to Custodian about his testimony.
    6. (Optional) Talk to Pavel of Kolin (if you managed to help him during Chapter 5) and ask for his testimony.
    7. (Optional) Talk to tailor's wife Guta (if you managed to help her during Chapter 2) and ask for her testimony.
    8. (Optional) Talk to Father Fabian about the trial.
    9. (Optional) Talk to Bailiff Hashek about the trial and his testimony (trying to bribe him will only harm).
      • (Optional) Talk to the swordsmith's wife Katra about the dinner with the Inquisitor and make her tell everything she knows.
    10. (Optional) Go to Johanka. She's been held in the prison, behind Bailif's house, guarded. First, you'll need to bypass the Guard.
      1. Talk to Guard, sitting on a chair. His stats are 5 / 4 / 21.
        • (Optional) You can persuade him to take a bribe. He'll ask 300 Prague Groschen, but can haggle.
        • (Optional) You can tell that you're from the Bishop. He'll ask for some document as a proof.
      2. (Optional) Talk to Johanka.
      3. (Optional) Tell Brother Nicodemus how it went.
      4. (Optional) Talk to Matthias, tell everything, receive Matthias' lucky dice.
      5. (Optional) Talk to Johanka again, give the dice.
  5. (Optional) Read the Matthew of Janow Manuscript that Father Godwin gave you.
  6. Talk to Inquisitor Jaroslav and start the trial.
  7. During the trial don't stay silent. If there's a dialogue option with persuasion - use it. Сall all the witnesses you could get. And confront all accusations.

Achievements[]

Notes[]

  • In Chapter 2, Casting Lots, you don't have to pick every option with the most number of drinks next to it. Make sure to have 2 shots left on the table when every option was picked. If done correctly, the "The Meaning of Life" option should appear afterward. (Tested on PC with Drinking level 8)
  • In Chapter 3, Go and Sin no More, if you decide to kill Henslin during, it will affect your reputation in Ledechko.
  • In Chapter 6, The Wicket Gate, If you decide to role-play and complete the pilgrimage the intended way - walking all the way, not running, sprinting or riding a horse - it will take approx. 40 real minutes or 10 ingame hours (in real life this trip would take just 1.5 hours). Quite a short pilgrimage indeed.
  • After the trial (with a favorable outcome) talk to Brother Nicodemus to receive Chamomile brew recipe.
  • After the trial bring Matthew of Janow Manuscript back to Father Godwin.
  • After the trial (with best outcome) you can talk with Sebastian, and it turns out that he knows about Matthias and Johanka, but accepts it and even swore to protect them as long as he councleror of Sasau. He will also give Henry Vom Berg Sword that he made for himself.
  • Restoring the church in Pribyslavitz as a part of From the Ashes DLC before starting chapter 6 allows Henry to brag about it, how he did it "at his own expense" and how "his [church] is the biggest in the province" which will make Johanka ask if he's still talking about the church. And while she'll appreciate Henry's efforts in Pribyslavitz, she will still insist on Henry going to Uzhitz church rather than his own.
  • Restoring Pribyslavitz also gives option to offer Matthias to move to Pribyslavitz with Johanka for winter, and adds that a clever pair like them will surely get a work there. Matthias agrees to come there after harvest.
