The King's Silver is a side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. After the events of Baptism of Fire, Sir Radzig will ask Henry to speak to Master Tobias Feyfar, who suspects something is happening at the abandoned Skalitz silver mines.
Synopsis[]
The Skalitz mineworks are standing idle, still damaged by the Cuman raid. It's time to assess the state they're in and start the job of getting them back up and running, if possible...
Objectives[]
- Talk to the Chief Engineer.
- Examine the ore processing yard.
- Examine the condition of the waterworks.
- Find out if Nemoy really is stealing silver.
- Find the mine gallery mentioned by Master Feyfar.
- Examine the mining works.
- Examine the condition of the mineshaft.
- Escape from the mine!
- Inform Tobias Feyfar.
- Report the silver find to the Chief Engineer.
Walkthrough[]
After speaking to Sir Radzig, go talk to Tobias. He'll reveal that a large quantity of silver has recently turned up, most likely from the abandoned mines at Skalitz. He wants you to inspect the ore yard, the waterworks, and one of the mine galleries. He notes the area will probably still be crawling with bandits. If you had heard the rumor about the mines from Rock during Aquarius, you will have the option to discuss it with Tobias, leading to the identification of the mine foreman, Nemoy, as possibly involved in stealing the royal silver, and adding the related quest objective.
NOTE: If you kill Nemoy outside the mine, or when you explore the mine gallery and trigger the cutscene with Nemoy's fall, all other active quest objectives (except "Find out if Nemoy really is stealing silver.") will disappear and be replaced by "Escape from the mine!" (if applicable) and "Inform Tobias Feyfar." Although the quest will be completed upon reporting to Tobias in this case, you won't receive all possible rewards.
Go to Skalitz and explore the ore processing yard, which appears to be damaged. Just as Tobias said, there are around half a dozen bandits here, so take them out however you see fit. Inspect the yard to determine it's actually in surprisingly good condition. Next, go to the abandoned waterworks. Inspect the waterworks to determine someone had attempted to destroy them, but they're still in working order.
Now, go to the camp southwest of Skalitz. (If you had not discussed Nemoy with Tobias, the camp will not be marked by the quest.) There you'll find the miners and Zuzana, a miner's widow, who have apparently been here for weeks. They will tell you they'd rather stay than risk being murdered by bandits or begging in Rattay with the other refugees. Be sure to talk to Zuzana, or she will not appear later in the quest.
Nemoy will confirm the mine gallery identified by Tobias is the only one still open. Optionally, you can promise him your silence about his mining operation in return for a share of the silver, in which case he will give you 450
(though this will reduce your options for rewards from Tobias at the end of the quest; see below). Telling Nemoy you intend to bring him to justice will lead him to attack you. Knocking him out will cause him to run once awakened, and killing him will have the consequences noted above. Therefore, avoid antagonizing him during the conversation, then head over to the mine gallery. A guard has been posted at the entrance to make sure no one goes in, but he's a bit of a pushover, so you'll easily convince him to let you through.
Nemoy falls to his death
If you didn't bring a torch, there's one in a bucket next to the mine entrance. Head into the dark mine and follow the path south, ascending a short ladder on the way (note that this ladder is only present during the quest). You will eventually trigger a cutscene where you hear a man and a woman arguing. Suddenly, there is a scream, and Nemoy plummets down the shaft, smashing into the rocks and knocking you off the platform into the water.
A voice calls out in the darkness, asking Nemoy if he's alright. Someone lights a torch, and you see two armed miners on the platform above you. They immediately blame you for what happened. With Nemoy's body floating nearby, you claim one of the other miners must have been at fault and try to reason with the spokesman.
Complete map of the Skalitz mines, with the yellow and pink tunnels in the northwest and central areas relevant to the escape
No matter what you say, the miner begins to fire at you, though his companion will flee if you passed a skill check during the conversation. There's no going back, as you can't get onto the platform (even if you somehow manage to do so, it only leads to a dead end). Instead, proceed east through the flooded tunnel until you reach a wall, with a dry passage stretching to the north and south. Climb one of the two tall ladders found nearby in either direction, then generally work your way east to escape the mine; see the map on this page for guidance. If you fall down a tall shaft (such as the one marked with a skull on the map), you'll likely die. You'll probably find a few miners creeping around the tunnels, so take care of them as you go.
Once you're outside, the quest expects you to go straight to Tobias, but to get to the bottom of the murder, return to the camp, which is now abandoned except for Zuzana (who will only be present if you had spoken with her before entering the mine). Talk to her, and she will confess they were mining the silver, with a keg of the valuable material buried in a rock heap nearby. (Although you will be unable to actually find or retrieve the silver, this conversation will add the quest objective "Report the silver find to the Chief Engineer." and create another option for a reward at the end of the quest.) When Nemoy wanted to murder you in order to continue their operation, she shoved him in anger and he fell down the shaft. You can either let her go or take her back to Rattay to face trial (in the latter case, you will automatically return to Rattay).
Return to Tobias, who you can pressure for a series of rewards, but only if you inspected the ore yard and waterworks and explored the mine gallery (otherwise, you will have no options to request rewards). The possible rewards comprise 300
for having inspected/explored all three areas, 300
if you report the silver find described by Zuzana (for this dialogue option to appear, you must have first confirmed to Tobias that Nemoy was stealing the silver, which isn't possible if you had extorted Nemoy for your silence), 300
if you report you took Zuzana captive, 300
if you note you survived the miners' attempt to kill you, and an additional 300
if a Speech check is passed.
Notes[]
- If you played Theresa's story in the DLC A Woman's Lot, you should recognize this area of the mine from the DLC quest The Family Silver.
