Walkthrough[]

Tobias Feyfar has been somewhat pressured into building a trebuchet as the leading engineer or the region, thing is, he is a mining engineer, not a siege engineer, and as it will be put later on, that is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Tobias however, being a scholar and follower of his fellows' works and deeds, has heard of Konrad Kyeser's coming to Sasau, likely to avoid any potential ire from Sigismund, after his comment for the defeat he suffered at Nicopolis.

If you spoke with Sir Divish before departing for Sasau, you simultaneously complete two objectives by asking Brother Nicodemus where Konrad Kyeser is staying, to which he replies in the big house in the courtyard by the monastery, and ask him to come to the camp as a physician.

Otherwise, any random citizen of Sasau when asked will direct you to the Custodian's house at the Monastery grounds, where he lives on the bottom floor.

A man named Urban who doesn't like the stuck-up Custodian stands guard outside the door of the Custodian's house. If Henry asks to get inside the Custodian's house to speak to Konrad, he will have to pass a Speech check, Skill check or can use the special quest option "I was sent by Tobias Feyfar." If successful, Urban will give Henry the Custodian's house key. Although in fact it is not required to get this key to get into the Custodian's house, as Urban will go to his guard duty near 9:00 hour. You are free to get into the house by either lockpicking before this time, or more simply following Sebastian vom Berg and his scribe openning the door.

If you choose the dialogue option "You look bored", you can begin the side quest Saintly Remains, although this appears to have no effect on your means of getting into the house. However, if you completed this side quest before, and didn't returen a quest item as Urban asked, he may trouble you when you tried to get into the house.

After entering the house, going through the door on the right will trigger a short cutscene and some dialogue.

Konrad will be somewhat ecstatic upon hearing of the news Henry has brought concerning the construction of a trebuchet, but sadly he is bound by contract to the monastery, and more directly to Master Builder Karel. Konrad suggests that it would be impossible to convince Karel to let him go and that they must either forge the Abbot's seal and signature by obtaining Karel's commission, or if you don't want to cheat Karel, you can make sure he's short of money to pay for Konrad's wages.

Karel can be found working in the house on the other side of the wall of the stonemason's construction site, or at the Sasau Wagoners' Inn. Upon speaking to him, Karel will voice concerns about Sasau's neutrality and Konrad's safety, so not even coin will persuade him.

Henry has 3 options for ensuring Konrad's release:

  • 1. Obtain Karel's commission and create a Forged leave of absence. If you don't want to lockpick, you can pickpocket or loot the Trunk Key from Karel's inventory and then head upstairs to Karel's bedroom. Opposite of the bed is a hard locked chest that contains the commission.
    • Return to Konrad with the commission. He will suggest you bring it to the Scribe of Sasau at the Sasau Rathaus to forge the Abbot's signature and seal. He also tells Henry that he must use the password "The fox isn't half as clever as he thinks." Regardless of whether you give the right password, the scribe has no idea what you're talking about and you eventually just tell him that Konrad Kyeser sent you.
    • The scribe agrees to forge the signature and you must wait for him to finish copying it (about 1 hour in-game time). Speak to the scribe again to receive Forged leave of absence.
    • Go put the original commission (it'll be in the 'Other' category of your inventory) back in the chest where you found it and then deliver the forgery to Master Builder Karel. Upon showing the notice to Karel, he will insist that you follow him back to his house (if he's at the Wagonners' Inn) where he has the original commission and can confirm the Abbot's signature and seal. If you put the original commission back, Karel will agree that the signature and seal are real and agree to Konrad's release.
  • 2. Obtain Konrad's wages and use them to bribe Karel. There are 2 ways to obtain Konrad's wages.
    • Henry can pickpocket Karel or knock him out and loot him to obtain 50 Prague Groschen that was apparently intended to pay Konrad's wages. Since Konrad will spend a lot of time working at the table and turned his back to anyone, this way is the most easy one.
    • Alternatively, Henry can win the wages through a game of dice against Karel. Go to the Sasau Wagonners' Inn and wait until 16:00 hour when Karel comes to play Farkle. Speak to him and ask to play. Depending on the outcome of the first game you win or lose 50 Prague Groschen. But even if you lose the first game, you can keep playing until you win once, and the money increases twice each time (100 Prague Groschen, 200 Prague Groschen, ...).
    • Pickpocketing or winning last game of dice with Karel is apparently enough for him to no longer having any groschen to pay Konrad's wages. Speak to him again and you'll have a new dialogue option to bribe him with anywhere between 1300-2300 Prague Groschen, ensuring Konrad's release from his contract.
  • 3. (hidden option) Convince Konrad to come using fists.
    • Hit Konrad using fists until he surrenders and agrees to come to Talmberg immediately.
    • This is the fastest way to complete this quest, but will lose you some reputation.

When you return to Kyeser, he is terrified that Sigismund has sent assassins to get him. He suspects an old colleague, Baron Peychar, is responsible and asks Henry to find out what is going on before he will step foot outside the house. Henry promises to hide in the garden after dark and catch whoever is antagonizing Konrad.

Finding out more about Peychar is optional. If you go to the Sasau Wagonners' Inn, when questioned whether the villagers will know who Peychar is, they'll say they've played dice with him and suggest he may be some kind of merchant. Peychar will be there at the Sasau Wagonners' Inn. When confronted he says that he deals in cloth and his trade business is private. He's not here to harm Konrad because after all, they were friends. There are no dialogue options with Konrad after finding and speaking to Peychar.

After you talk to Peychar, or if you choose not to, wait in or near the Custodian's house until 24:00 hour. By 1:00 hour (Peychar may hiding near another house next to Custodian's before this time), Peychar will be struggling to lockpick the front door. You can talk to him and he will present dialogue options different from those he gives at the inn. Peychar will claim that it is the Custodian who owes him for salts and spices, and he came here has nothing to do with Konrad. After explaination, Peychar claims he will stop sneaking around at night and find another way to sort out the matter, and you can then speak with Konrad and have the quest progress.

Peychar will eventually failed at lockpicking and walk away. However, if you leave the door open, Peychar will casually walk in and close the door behind him before heading toward Konrad's room and be attacked by the guard who will kill Peychar if you do not interfere.

Talk to a relieved Konrad after Peychar is left or dead, who will then agree to head to Talmberg. Returning to Feyfar at the camp will trigger a cutscene, but it will not complete the quests Rocketeer or Siege. After speaking to Master Feyfar, Rocketeer will be completed and the quest objective in Siege will update (you'll still have the opportunity to do optional objectives). As a reward, Feyfar gives Henry 1075 Prague Groschen and Feyfar's trunk key, which contains 6 Prague Groschen, Italian bascinet, and Magdeburg gauntlets.

Notes[]

  • If you haven't completed Charlatan's quest Miracles While You Wait by now, he will sneak by before Peychar for a comedic interaction.
  • If you catch Peychar at night but let him go, you can still tell Konrad to go to Talmberg. However, Peychar will eventually reappear at the Talmberg camp where Konrad arrives. While the guards should make quick work of him, Konrad will be furious at your negligence.
    • If you steal his weapon before the encounter at Talmberg, by knocking him unconscious at night for example, he will appear in Talmberg at the conclusion of quest without a weapon (or any other items stolen from him) and will not attempt to kill Konrad. Allowing the player to stay friendly with Konrad and not void the Merciful achievement.
    • Knocking Peychar unconscious before talk will not lead to an updated quest objective or give you the opportunity to talk to Konrad. Peychar will just keep waking up and walking away, and you may temporarily lose the ability to talk to him.
  • Even when purposefully aiding Peychar to assassinate Konrad, it does not seem like you can fail this quest. You can get rid of the guard in front of Konrad's room and open both doors at midnight. This allows Peychar to walk into the room. However, he will then simply stand next to the terrified Konrad for a while without doing anything. Eventually, he just turns around and walks back out again. Apparently he's just as bad at assassinating people as he is at lockpicking.
