Questions and Answers is the fifteenth main quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It begins when Henry enters the hall of the Upper Castle of Rattay after Baptism of Fire. It is intertwined with the side quest Pestilence, as the citizens of Merhojed are suffering from a strange plague that impedes Henry's investigation.

              • Go and report to Sir Radzig at the lookout point by Talmberg.

Walkthrough[]

You will awaken the day after the battle of Pribyslavitz at Rattay, where you have been rewarded with your own private room at Pirkstein. Go to the Upper Castle, where Sir Hanush and Sir Radzig are listening to a report from Captain Bernard: the battle has not stopped the bandit raids, and Merhojed has been attacked. Luckily, the villagers were able to defend themselves and even captured an injured bandit.

Master Tobias Feyfar then enters with the chest of coins recovered from Pribyslavitz; unfortunately, they are all cunning forgeries. Sir Hanush is livid that such a large amount of coin is practically worthless, and Sir Radzig points out this means their enemy essentially has unlimited coin. However, he is able to deduce that whoever is funding the bandits has a secret forge, several skilled craftsman, and access to a mine, narrowing down their potential hiding places. He dispatches you to interrogate the captive bandit and find out where the bandits are now hiding.

Head to Merhojed. The bandit is being held at the home of the bailiff Melichar, but first, ask the local villagers what has become of your friend Matthias, who is lying injured at the stud farm. He isn't sick with the mysterious illness that struck the village after the bandit attack, so ask him about the raid. He tells you around twenty bandits tried to launch an assault on the town at dusk. After confirming they were Czech and not Cumans, you learn the woodcutter's son, Mojmir Straw, saw the bandits approaching and warned the villagers in time for them to launch an assault, but he was killed in the attack. Furthermore, you'll learn Old Straw is baying for blood, and Melichar is likely to allow him to take his revenge on the captive bandit. Next, you'll need to ask him about the plague.

Now find the bailiff. Melichar refuses to let you speak with the bandit until his people are cured. Besides, the bandit is also afflicted and will need the remedy before he can be questioned. You will not be able to progress any further in your investigation until you complete the quest Pestilence.

Once you've either distributed the cure to the village or delivered a delayed or incorrect remedy through Pestilence, return to Merhojed and begin your interrogation. If you failed to cure the bandit and he died, you'll need to either loot the bandit's corpse if it's still in the barn or ask Melichar what the villagers did with the body, in which case he'll reveal the corpse was thrown in a pit outside the village and you'll need to dig it up with a spade. Either way, loot the body for a letter (which could also be pickpocketed when the bandit is alive). If you can read, you'll learn the writer, "S", has discovered the full scope of the counterfeiting operation and wants out. He warns the recipient, "T", that a certain German knight is in Sasau and asking questions. The only thing to do now is report to Sir Radzig at the Talmberg lookout; see further below.

However, if your investigation of the plague was successful and didn't result in the bandit's death, question him. He is more than happy to tell you everything you want to know, with the understanding you will ensure he gets a quick death by hanging rather than a torturous end at the hands of the Rattay executioner. He tells you he was paid by Runt, and Runt was paid in counterfeit coin by "the Chief", who he knows little about other than that he's rich, spoke like a noble, and isn't Czech. The Chief arranged the attack on Merhojed to remind the local lords he was still abroad after their triumph at Pribyslavitz. Moreover, the bandit camp at Pribyslavitz was only the beginning of the Chief's master plan. The prisoner also reveals he was the one who delivered the forged coins and certain letters to Pribyslavitz, which he had received from a merchant named Menhart. As luck would have it, he was due to meet and deliver a letter to the merchant at the crossroads near Rovna soon. You demand the letter he is carrying and finally end the conversation, but the bandit is terrified of being interrogated further by the executioner.

At that moment, Melichar bursts in, with Old Straw right behind him. The old man has finally snapped and demands you let him torture and kill the bandit. You can either step aside and let the man have his revenge or attempt to convince him to let the brigand face the justice of the Rattay hangman (the intimidation option will always fail, forcing you to either fight Old Straw or try to pass a Speech check instead). If the bandit lives, after speaking with him again and telling him he's under arrest, you automatically escort him to the Rattay jail to await sentencing.

After either interrogating the bandit or taking the letter found on his corpse, go to the lookout point west of Talmberg and speak with Sir Radzig. If you interrogated the bandit, he will authorize you to travel to Rovna to look for Menhart. Alternatively, if you only found the letter, he will order you to Sasau to find the German knight (though he mentions Menhart even if the bandit had died and you hadn't actually learned of the merchant's involvement). He will also pay you nothing, 375 Prague Groschen, or 750 Prague Groschen, depending on your performance (with the higher payment received if you both interrogated and saved the bandit from Old Straw). Then, you will discuss the greater meaning of life's trials before you leave to continue your quest. Once you are out of earshot, Sir Radzig quietly says "Good luck, son."

Notes[]

  • In the German language version of the game, Sir Radzig finishes the last cutscene by saying only "Good luck" without adding "son".

Bugs[]

  • Sir Radzig may not be at the lookout point after interrogating the prisoner. There are three known locations where he might be found instead: next to the stable in Merhojed, in the main hall of the Upper Castle in Rattay, or at the Neuhof stable. However, he won't talk to you about Merhojed, as this conversation is linked to the lookout point location. When he is sitting immobile on his horse, it might help to kill the horse so he will continue his journey to the lookout point on foot (source). Once he begins walking, be sure not to talk to him, as this seems to interrupt his pathfinding and prevents him from ever reaching the lookout.
