Marika is a young Romani woman and the only daughter of the leader of the nomads who recently made camp in the Trosky region.
The voivode notes that out of his three children, Marika is the one most like him and, if she'd been a boy, she'd have been the one to inherit his position as leader of their clan. However, Marika notes she herself doesn't want that even if she could be voivode (or a voivode's wife).
Biography[]
Despite being a nomad, Marika felt trapped by regularly moving instead of perhaps one day settling down, having a family, and not traveling ever again. While her brother, Tibor, understood this, their father didn't take Marika's wish for a permanent home seriously.
When her father setup camp in the area, eventually Marika ran into a local boy from Semine, Bohush. The two started dating, despite Bohush's mother's disapproval. Meanwhile, Marika's father eventually pushed that the two needed to get married or Bohush should pay, as was their custom, so he sent such a request via a messenger to Bohush.
However, Bohush and Marika were actually out together that day, so instead the messenger ran into Bohush's mother, who immediately laughed off the proposal and insulted the voivode. In turn, Marika's brothers, Gejza and Tibor, set off into town to confront the villagers for their insults while Bohush was there.
Things suddenly took a turn for the worse and in the commotion, Gejza was killed, Tibor taken captive, and Bohush stabbed. Marika managed to find her boyfriend and quickly took him to a hiding spot in Apollonia to recover. However, to try and help protect them, when she ran away from the Nomads' Camp, she also took a letter of safe conduct that was in her father's possession in case she'd need a bargaining chip.
If Miri Fajta is completed and she's given the amulet:
- Clever like her father though, when Henry found her and offered to assist, she eventually proposed her idea: for Henry to wager the letter against her father's amulet. If Henry won, then the voivode would have to come see her and hand it over to her himself. Henry did so, winning the bet and, as promised, her father met her in the cave with the still recovering Bohush. As they talked, Marika noted the amulet wasn't just for her, but for her and Bohush, to save his life, revealing her plan all along: by saving someone's life as per their custom, they'd become part of the family as well. Realizing the clever plan his daughter just pulled off, the voivode laughed over how she had outwitted him. He then apologized for his earlier, stubborn behavior and welcomed Marika and Bohush back to the camp. Marika made it clear though that when the nomads decided to pack up and leave again, she'll be allowed to decide for herself if she wanted to stay or go with them.
