Longswords are a type of weapon in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which are held in both hands, however, though you can use both longswords at the same time as a shield or a torch, the speed at which you swing the sword is slower. And although you are not able to perform longsword combos, you are however still able to perform one-handed sword combos that work with shields.

This type of sword requires strength and is balanced between stabbing and slashing damage. It also has the longest range out of any type of melee weapon, except for the polearms.

Strategy and Tactics[]

  • The impressive reach of longswords makes them naturally strong against small groups of less armored opponents. Such enemies may simply be stabbed at to keep at bay, or baited into a premature attack which Henry may attack into without being countered. This is especially effective if the player holds the stab button until the enemy is locked in an attack animation too far away to hit him.
  • Longswords possess by far the most numerous and versatile combos of any weapon class. Indeed, they have several combos which only require three strikes instead of four, making them harder for enemies to interrupt. On the flipside, failing to execute combos can remove a lot of their damage potential, which becomes an increasing problem in the late game.
  • The main disadvantage of longswords is their very poor synergy with shields. This can be a problem against groups which contain archers as the player has no passive defense against their projectiles. It also requires the player to be more precise with perfect block and master-strike timings.
  • Since they are also held in the off hand, torches also can't be used with longswords without sacrificing attack speed and combo ability. This can prove a problem early on when the player isn't yet capable of brewing Nighthawk.
  • As bladed weapons, longswords also lose much of their damage potential against heavily armored opponents. This can make them less potent in the late game against groups, although they remain powerful against single opponents.
  • Counterintuitive to historical precedent, their long reach makes them easily the best horseback melee weapons normally available to the player. As long as Henry is on a horse with sufficient courage, he can canter or gallop past enemies for an easy stab attack. At full gallop with a decent longsword, most enemies will be instantly killed or at least injured to the point of surrender.
