Biography[]

Karolina spent much of her time in the Butcher shop's yard and around the marketplace in Rattay. Each day she walked to the local stream to collect water for her family. Her father kept a very close eye on her, especially in regards to the towns menfolk.

Sir Hans Capon took a liking to her and decided to woo her. He said she was educated at a convent, so needed to be treated with sensitivity. Describing her as the fairest maid in the kingdom, the Bohemian Helen of Troy. Believing he needed a gift to impress her Hans sent Henry to regain his great-grandmother's necklace, which he lost playing dice.

In possession of the precious jewellery again Hans then ordered Henry to begin his secret admirer plot by sneaking inside Karolina's bedchamber and placing the necklace as well as a love letter into a trunk, without her or her father's knowledge.

After the items were delivered, Karolina wore the jewellery around her neck as instructed. In the letter a rendezvous had been arranged as well; Capon wished to serenade Karolina at her window with love poems.

Karolina was waiting at the allotted time and found Capon's poetry amusing but peculiar until her father overheard the commotion. Karolina told Capon to hide as her father would kill him. She was then either happy and flirted with Capon or was offended and resistant when he slipped into her room depending on the success of his poetry while her father searched outside for the culprit. With a hasty romp happening if Hans was successful.

The next morning after a passionate night or a door slammed in the face, Karolina returned Hans's love letter unopened as she was not, in the end, able to read.

When her father learnt of the tryst between his daughter and Hans, he brought this news to Lord Hanush, fearing his daughter might be with child. A fuming Hanush lashed out at the butcher and tossed a bag of Groschen at the his feet, warning him not to show his face at the castle again.
