- Kanthaka appears in Buddhist text as the horse of Prince Siddhartha, who latter became the Buddha. Legend says that Kanthaka died of a broken heart following his prince's departure, was later reborn as a brahmin (a class of priests), and went on to achieve spiritual enlightenment.
