For the Skalitz citizen, see Beggar Jane.

Jane was the millmaid at the Ledetchko mill, which was owned by her father Miller Oliver, and run by the foreman Old Thomas.

Biography[]

Henry can speak to her as part of the quest A Friend In Need..., where he attempts to find jobs for his two carpenter friends.

Fritz later describes her as pretty and kind during ...Is a Friend Indeed, and hints that Matthew may have a sweet spot for her (which he does not deny), and that Old Thomas likes to show off in front of her. Henry learns she once had a brother called Martin, who was killed when his wagon overturned.

Soon afterwards, all the other employees leave the mill, even Jane's sweetheart. Her father is convinced that they had grown lazy under Martin's foreman-ship, and were annoyed at Thomas' demand for hard workers. Henry finds it suspicious that Thomas seems to angling to get the mill, or Jane, or both.

Jane admits to Henry that her father was not as sharp as he once was, but that she knew what Thomas was up to, driving off all hard workers so that Oliver would not replace him. However, she defended Thomas's actions involving the death of her brother, claiming he ran for help while someone else evidently stole Martin's distinctive mottled scarf.

It turns out that Thomas has the scarf, as Henry may discover through pickpocketing. If he gives it to Jane, she will immediately show it to Thomas, without a word, causing him to flee town.
