Besmirched is a side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, given to Henry by Andrew, the innkeeper of the Inn in the Glade, after the side quest Masquerade.

Synopsis[]

Someone was snooping around the ruins of Skalitz, looting whatever they could find of value. Someone ought to look into it. And of course stealing from a thief is no great sin...

Objectives[]

  • Help Andrew find out more about the looting of the tavern in Skalitz.
  • Find the robbed man in Rattay.
    • (Optional) Inform the innkeeper Andrew.
    • (Optional) Find Adam's valuables and give them back to him instead of to Andrew.
    • Find the the thieving charcoal burner.
      • Rob the charcoal burners' stash.
        • (Optional) Return to Andrew with the loot.
        • (Optional) Return to Adam with the loot.
        • (Optional) Give Adam the cross back.
  • Return to Adam with the loot.

Walkthrough[]

After completing the side quest Masquerade, talk to Andrew, the innkeeper of the Inn in the Glade, and he will tell you about an opportunity to earn some money.

The first objective is to find Adam from Skalitz in Rattay. Ask one of the local beggars or refugees from Skalitz, who will tell you Adam is either at the tavern or with the horses. Follow the objective marker and talk to Adam to learn about the robber and his loot.

If you choose, you can inform Andrew of what you learned from Adam, and he will name the charcoal burner you're looking for, Tonchek.

Go to the camp north of Rovna and ask the local charcoal burners about their trips to Skalitz. One of them will readily confess to visiting the destroyed town, but denies doing any stealing even when pressed. The other (in a black and yellow cape) will first deny going to Skalitz altogether, but when intimidated, he will will give you a ring he supposedly found when it fell out of "some shady character's" sack. If you got the thief's name from Andrew, you can also ask them where to find Tonchek, and they'll point you in the right direction; otherwise, you'll have to find his hut yourself on the outskirts of the camp. On the left side of the hut, you see a completely new kettle; interact with it.

Speak to Tonchek.

  • If you comment on the kettle (only possible if you had interacted with it): you can intimidate him into telling you where his loot is. A bit into the woods north of the hut, you will see a fallen tree with its roots up; "open" the roots and take his loot.
  • If you choose the speech option "You miserable thief!": it will lead to a fist fight, and after knocking him out, you can loot the money (in the form of a bulging purse) from him. If you wait for him to wake up and speak to him again, you will have the speech option "So is you tongue untied yet?", which will cause him to reveal the location of his loot, but he won't reveal anything about Adam's family cross.
  • If you choose the speech option "Just making sure.": nothing will happen, and the conversation will end. If you then speak to him again, you will have the speech option "I'll tan your thieving hide!", leading to a fist fight; see above.
  • If you choose the speech option "I want to buy it.": he will tell you that he sold the cross to Andrew, and you can then pickpocket the purse from him.

If you want to peacefully acquire the purse, the loot, and the knowledge of the location of the cross, choose the "I want to buy it." speech option, pickpocket the purse, and search the woods for the fallen tree with the loot.

Return to Andrew and ask about the cross.

  • If you choose the option "Why would he lie?" or "I think you're a liar": it will end the conversation about the cross. You can optionally steal the cross from a Very Hard-locked chest in the cellar of the inn. A convenient time to do so is during the side quest Masquerade, as during that quest Andrew will take you to the cellar and leave you there.
  • If you choose the option "I want to buy the cross.": you can buy the cross, even haggling the price.

It's your choice who to give the purse and loot to, and either way, the quest completes.

  • If you give it to Andrew, you get 375 Prague Groschen.
  • If you give it (and optionally, the cross) to Adam, you can decide on no reward (nothing), a normal reward ("Just a little something"; 450 Prague Groschen), or a "larger" reward ("I had a few helpers"; 225-375 Prague Groschen, depending on the number of helpers you claim; the more helpers you claim, the lower the reward).

If you gave the cross back to Adam, you can then ask him to be the innkeeper at the Pribyslavitz tavern as part of the DLC From the Ashes.

Notes[]

  • If you already know the location of the thieving charcoal burner's loot (a fallen tree near Tonchek's hut), you may skip looking for the burner altogether. However, you can still threaten him and take his items, worth about 50 Prague Groschen.

Bugs[]

  • In game version 1.9.6, if you start the quest by speaking with Adam rather than Andrew, the game may erroneously declare Adam dead after you give him all of his things back. Also, the dialogue option to buy a horse from Zora disappears after you get the quest from Andrew, although the option to buy horses should reappear after the quest is completed.
  • For PS4 players, this quest is bugged when it comes to buying the cross from Andrew; you pay for the cross, but never receive it.
