Ambrose, originally known as Adam and later as simply "the hermit", was a hermit that lived in Apollonia in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

Biography[]

Adam grew up around Troskowitz with his brother, Jan, over 30 years ago. However, Jan had unrequited love for a childhood friend, Margaret, to the point that when she married one of Jan's friends, Vashek, Jan didn't handle the rejection well. Adam likely knew of this to a degree, as when Jan's body was found at the base of a cliff, having looked like he committed suicide by jumping off of it, only Adam suspected something else happened and that Margaret and Vashek were hiding it. As such, his brother's body was buried outside of hallowed ground, as those who died by suicide weren't allowed to enter heaven.

However, instead of seeking out any form of revenge, Adam instead left for Prague and renamed himself Ambrose, where he joined the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. There, he made friends with Konrad and appeared to strive for a very pious life, giving others the sense he was likely trying to find some kind of peace from the life he left behind. He did well and rose so far in the ranks, he was named seneschal, making him just second in rank under the Grand Master. Unfortunately, his principles to live a life without corruption eventually put him into conflict with unscrupulous members and the Inquisition when he discovered the Grand Master had committed treachery, so he disappeared. He headed back home and setup a secluded place in Apollonia, only telling Konrad where he went.

There in Apollonia, he only went by "the hermit" and was known to help people in the area who sought him out. By the time he was one foot in the grave, his old friend Konrad came to see him regarding a dire matter with their corrupt grand master. However, by the time Konrad got there, Ambrose wasn't even able to comprehend his friend was there. In Ambrose's last moments though, he suddenly spoke clearly that he had two final wishes: to tell Margaret he forgave her, but his brother needed to get what was rightfully his, and to retrieve his old sword from where he buried it so he could hold it one last time. However, while Konrad was out retrieving the sword, Ambrose passed away.
